AFS Reading Group (Book Club) The Atlanta Freethought Society is proud to announce the formation of the
AFS Reading Group. The Reading Group meets monthly to read and discuss interesting books covering a variety of topics – including arguments in favor of freethought, the political and social impact of fundamentalism, alternative religions, philosophy, evolution, early church histories, personal spiritual journeys, and other topics of interest to participants. To keep updated on the Reading Group meetings,
please sign up for the AFS

was a good kick-off event. We talked about books, authors, and
broad topics relating to atheism which might serve as fertile
ground for future books or discussions." --Paul (10/18/07) "I
really enjoyed it! I will definitely attend the next
meeting!" --Michelle (10/18/07) Upcoming

Prior
Meeting Topics January
24, 2008 At
this meeting each attendee will present a book to the group that
they have read or are reading, and point out a particular
ethical or moral challenge. It is our hope that this will be a
pleasant change from religious dogma to a more reasoned ethical
discussion.
December
13, 2007 "Atheist
Manifesto" by Michel
Onfrey
November
15, 2007 The
first book for the group to read and discuss is “God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons
Everything”, by Christopher
Hitchens. Hopefully this controversial book should start the group off with a real bang!
We hope you will join us for a thought-provoking and enjoyable evening.
October
18, 2007 This
first meeting will be a time to meet to get to know others in
the group and discuss future plans for the Reading Group, including recommended books and choosing a suitable location for future meetings. Attendees are encouraged to bring ideas for books to read.
