There are four offices, which each carry a one year term.
President
Responsible
for the overall functioning of member activities, meetings,
and board of directors activities. May head committees or
appoint committee chairs, oversee newsletter production, and
issue official statements for the organization.
Vice
President, Internal Communications
Second
in command, in the absence of the president. Responsible for
membership issues, including mail, communication, telephone
trees, mailing lists, and satisfaction surveys. Generally
serves as the chair of the Refreshment and Program committees.
Vice
President, External Communications
Third
in command in the absence of the president and VPI.
Responsible for public and media relations, press releases and
press statements, advertising, outreach efforts, and promotion
of the organization in the community.
Treasurer
Fourth
in command, in the absence of the president and vice
presidents. Responsible for maintaining fiscal information,
filing taxes when necessary, maintaining corporate and
non-profit registrations, protecting the assets of the
organization and making spending recommendations. Provides the
organization with a quarterly balance sheet and revenue and
expense statement, as well as writes the checks to pay the
organization's expenses.
The Editor-in-Chief position is appointed by the President, and serves as an Ex-Oficio board member, if not already elected to the board. The person in this position serves as newsletter editor, is responsible for the newsletter's content and production. In addition, he/she may create other written publications for AFS, such as pamphlets and the annual calendar, and will direct or assist with the publication of books for the AFS press.
